xtender - Inverter-charger

Studer Xtender

The Xtender series provides an unmatched freedom of use due to its many functions. In a basic application, it offers a total package: the functions of inverter, battery charger, transfer system and assistance to the source. These functions can be combined and controlled in a totally automatic way for exceptional ease and optimal management of available energy.

Its programmable auxiliary contacts also permit interconnection with existing systems or the implementation of extended functions. Fully programmable by means of its remote control, it enables the software update; thus making it an upgradeable product to which new functions may be added further on. Through the implementation of several units, it is possible to create a 3-phase source or to set them in parallel, in order to increase the power available. Up to 9 Xtender series inverters can then be combined together.

These potential-free contacts can be programmed for many different applications. They can react to any event outside or inside of the inverter (grid availability, battery voltage, fault message ...) They can also be programmed on a timer or can be switched on during particular times (at night, at the weekend ...). In this way, they can serve to start up a generator, to switch off less important loads, to signal a fault, to charge batteries depending on the situation, etc.

With the smart-boost function, the output of another source of alternating current, such as a power generator or a land connection, can be increased; even when special loads are being used (inductive, asymmetric, with high switch-on current). It is also possible to combine the Steca Xtender XTS with almost all inverters which are already present in order to increase the available output.

Inverter - Charger

The basic functions of the combined inverter of the Studer Xtender series are the inverter, the battery charger, the switching function and the support of external sources of alternating current. These functions can be combined and controlled fully automatically, the range offers outstanding user-friendliness and very good exploitation of the energy available.

Several Studer Xtender can be connected in parallel or to form a three-phase system. That means that up to nine Studer Xtender can work together.

Hybrid systems

Alongside solar energy, photovoltaic hybrid systems generally employ a diesel generator, a wind turbine or the public grid as a further electricity source. The inverters used in hybrid systems, which have integrated battery chargers, supply the connected AC loads according to demand from the battery bank of solar energy or the second electricity source. These devices also allow the batteries to be recharged from the extra energy source.

Photovoltaic hybrid systems offer the advantage that the solar generator does not have to be significantly oversized for periods of low sunlight. This avoids substantial costs. When selecting its energy source, the system always gives priority to the energy provided by the module. In combination with a controllable second source, the energy supply remains reliable and available 24 hours a day, all year round.
